Southern Spain packs Moorish palaces, orange-tree courtyards and a tapas-and-flamenco rhythm into a run of cities an hour apart by fast train. It's one of Europe's great easy loops — no car, no rush, just warm evenings and a new old town every couple of days.
When to go
Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are ideal — warm, long evenings without the furnace heat of a Sevillano summer. Come in high summer only if you love it hot and can move at the local pace: siesta, then out late.
The shape of the trip
Start with the cathedral, the Alcázar and tapas crawls through Santa Cruz and Triana.
A short train for the Mezquita and flower-filled patios — an easy day or overnight.
The Alhambra above the city, and the free-tapas bars of a student town below it.
Finish on the coast — Picasso, a working port reborn, and a beach lunch.
